Russia may reduce the volume of investments in US government bonds, according to published materials of the US Ministry of Finance. According to the Ministry, this figure decreased by $1.46 billion to $5.39 billion.
$3.75 billion was invested in long — term bonds and another $1.63 billion in short-term ones. From August to December 2019, Russia increased the volume of investments in US government securities, then in February again increased the volume of investments in US government bonds to $12.58 billion.
The peak of Russian investments in US government bonds was recorded in February 2013: then they reached $164.3 billion. Russia began withdrawing reserves from US government bonds in 2014 in the Wake of emerging geopolitical difficulties. In August 2018, Russia reduced its investment in the US national debt to an 11-year low.
