Hackers broke into the accounts of American businessmen Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Joe Biden, and Jeff Bezos on Twitter, posting messages in them suggesting that subscribers transfer bitcoins to the specified account. This was reported by Bloomberg.
Attackers on behalf of well-known personalities promised to double the amount transferred if it is transferred within the nearest time. Hackers managed to collect 55 thousand dollars already.
The attack also targeted the official Twitter pages of American companies Apple and Uber.
Reuters reports that the accounts of entrepreneur and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, rap artist Kanye West and former us Vice President Joseph Biden have also been hacked. The messages were deleted from most of the hacked accounts after some time.
Because of the hacker attack, Twitter shares fell 4% to $34.43 per share on the evening of July 15. According to preliminary data, hackers broke into the Twitter authentication mechanism itself. This allowed them to access accounts without knowing the user's password and username. Twitter had to temporarily disable the ability to publish tweets, now messages are published without problems.
