Putin and Merkel discussed the need to implement the Minsk agreements

German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a telephone conversation discussed with Vladimir Putin the settlement of the situation in the South-East of Ukraine by implementing the Minsk agreements. Deputy Prime Minister and representative of Ukraine in the contact group Alexey Reznikov believes that the Minsk agreements are outdated, “they are not carved in stone” and Ukraine's rejection of them is possible.

Commenting on these words, Dmitry Kozak, Deputy head of the presidential administration of the Russian Federation, pointed out that withdrawal from the agreements would mean a complete rejection of negotiations on the part of Ukraine. He called on Kyiv to clarify its position on this issue and either confirm its intention to destroy Minsk or refute Reznikov's words.

On July 12, the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister clarified his statements, noting that Ukraine is committed to the Minsk agreements, but wants to “modernize” them.
