Russia may suffer damage due to EU carbon tax

Specialists of the audit company KPMG concluded that in 2025–2030 Russian exporters may pay at least €33.3 billion due to the climate tax on goods shipped from Russia.

Three scenarios

According to the first scenario, the tax will begin to operate in 2025 and will only cover greenhouse emissions. Then the load on Russian exporters in 2025–2030. Will be €33.3 billion.

If the EU introduces a tax in 2028 and it will have to be paid with the difference between the actual CO2 emissions from production and the EU reference volume, then the load for manufacturers from Russia will be €6 billion for 3 years.

The most pessimistic scenario is that Russian suppliers will have to pay €50.6 billion by 2030. In this case, the tax will also apply to indirect CO2 emissions associated with the activities of partner companies of exporters.

Recall that Europe accounts for about 46% of the total exports of Russian goods.
