US authorities are considering banning the Chinese Tiktok app from operating in the country, Secretary of state Mike Pompeo said on Fox News on July 6.
The TV host asked Pompeo whether the US authorities can ban the work of Chinese platforms, including TikTok, after India, because of suggestions that the management of this social network allegedly transmits user data to the Chinese authorities.
"We take this very seriously. We are definitely considering this issue.< ... > As for Chinese smartphone apps, I assure you, the US will take appropriate measures, " Pompeo said.
According to the channel, more than 30 million users from the United States are registered in TikTok.
In November 2019, US national security agencies began investigating the owner of TikTok, a Chinese company called ByteDance Technology. US lawmakers are concerned that the owners of the app will censor the content. They also have questions about how users ' personal data is stored in the app.
And in early 2020, the state Department banned the use of the TikTok social network on official devices.
TikTok responded by saying that its activities are not influenced by any government in the world, including the Chinese one.
