This happened the day after US President Donald Trump condemned the demolition of monuments and signed a decree on the creation of the Garden of American Heroes.
On US Independence Day, June 4, about 300 people gathered in Baltimore on the square near the monument to Christopher Columbus, CNN reported.
Using chains, they dropped the statue from the pedestal. It broke into pieces, which the crowd threw into the harbor.
This statue is so far the last among those that have already been destroyed in four weeks of protests against racism in the United States and Europe.
The monument was opened by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. The Italian navigator Columbus is considered one of the first Europeans to arrive in America. His name is associated with the beginning of European colonization and the oppression of indigenous peoples.
