The U.S. sent aircraft carriers to the area of military exercises in China

On Saturday, July 4, Nimitz and Ronald Reagan will begin to carry out the most ambitious maneuvers in the South China Sea in recent years.

American aircraft carriers Nimitz and Ronald Reagan with escort ships were sent to the area of Chinese maneuvers near the disputed islands in the South China Sea. This was reported on July 3 by The Wall Street Journal.

It is noted that the ships will begin to carry out the “most ambitious in recent years” exercises in the South China Sea to “convey to China an unambiguous message that they do not approve of the buildup of Beijing’s military power in the region.”

At the same time, US Navy Admiral George Wikoff emphasized that US exercises are not a response to Chinese maneuvers, but PRC exercises “justify the presence of the US Navy.”

According to the publication, in the framework of the exercises, flights based on aircraft carriers will be carried out in order to test their combat effectiveness.

Earlier it became known that from July 1 to 5, China will conduct exercises in the area of the Xisha Islands (Paracel Islands). In the State Department, Beijing’s actions in the disputed waters of South China were called provocative.

Xisha Islands are the subject of a territorial dispute between China and Vietnam.

The ownership of another archipelago in the South China Sea — Nansha (Spratly) — is disputed by China, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
