Florida's residents caught reptile with their bare hands
Two residents of the U.S. state of Florida were arrested after they caught a small alligator and tried to treat him to beer, according to Newsweek magazine.
The incident occurred in the town of Palm City, located at the mouth of the St. Lucie River. Two men — 22-year-old Noah Osbourne and 27-year-old Timothy Kepke — as they later admitted to the police, saw a crocodile on the side of the road and caught him with their bare hands. Then one of them began to provoke reptile, waving his hand, and when the alligator opened its mouth, he tried to pour beer into it. The entire incident was captured on video.
The crocodile did not like the drink, and he began to behave even more aggressively, after which the men, according to them, released the animal. What exactly they tried to achieve with their actions, they could not explain to the law enforcement officers. At the same time, they were assured that they themselves were not very drunk and drank “only a couple of bottles”.
Although no one was injured as a result of the incident, the men were arrested and released on the same day on bail of 5 thousand and 2.5 thousand dollars, respectively. The fact is that attempts to catch an alligator in Florida are punishable by law.
“No one has the right to intentionally kill, mutilate, take possession or otherwise catch an alligator or other representatives of a crocodile squad,” reads local law.
As the publication notes, in most cases, it is people who pose a great danger to alligators, and not vice versa. These animals prefer not to contact with humans, and cases of their attacks are quite rare.
