The completion of the coronavirus pandemic is not yet visible, and the incidence is accelerating. This was announced by the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adan Gebreisus. The organization had previously announced a new wave of coronavirus in Europe.
“The virus still has a lot of room for progress. The harsh reality is that the pandemic has not even come to an end. Although many countries have made progress overall, the pandemic is accelerating,” said Gebreisus at a briefing in Geneva.
The head of WHO also said that this week (June 29 – July 5) there will be a meeting of experts who will evaluate the progress in research and will prioritize the countering of COVID-19 at a new stage.
Gebreisus recalled that June 30 marks six months after receiving the first reports of an outbreak of infection at WHO. This date coincided with “reaching a level of 10 million coronaviruses infected and 500 thousand deaths.” Analyzing the results of the six months of the fight against the pandemic, the general director drew attention to the manifestations of “solidarity and kindness” in the world, as well as to such negative phenomena as “stigmatization, misinformation, and politicization of the pandemic.”
Recall earlier Gebreyesus also predicted that the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic will be felt for decades.
Also, the WHO believes: there is no guarantee that an effective vaccine against coronavirus will appear. However, if such a drug does appear, the organization already knows who will receive it first.
