Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki believes that the consideration of technologies, the search for investment partners and the exchange are key issues related to the plans for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the country.
On the eve of the White House, Presidents Andrzej Duda and Donald Trump announced cooperation in the Polish civilian nuclear sector. Duda noted that in the near future the parties will sign an agreement that will allow them to realize the project.
Morawiecki added that Poland is considering installing small or large reactors.
“Projects being developed are very interesting, using SMR or HTR technologies, high-temperature, small modular nuclear reactors, which, as we said, would be very useful to us. The problem, however, is that these technologies are still not certified, are not indicated in commercial use in the same way as traditional technologies. So, therefore, we very carefully analyze both the previous technologies that have been used over the past few decades, the so-called large reactors, and the latest technological advances, ” he said (quote from Polish Radio).
The Prime Minister of Poland said that it was a question of finding a solution that would allow better control of the electric power system and that it would be possible to compensate for the lack of capacity from renewable energy sources. He also emphasized the need to find a suitable investment partner.
The Polish government plenipotentiary with strategic infrastructure, Peter Naimsky, said that the first reactor should be launched in Poland by 2033.
