Washington has refused four Chinese airlines' additional weekly flights.
The United States rejected requests from four Chinese airlines for additional weekly flights between countries. This is stated in a statement by the US Department of Transportation, circulated on June 19.
It is noted that the US Department of Transportation issued an order rejecting future schedules submitted by Chinese carriers over the past few weeks in accordance with a decree of May 22.
“The current order is aimed at maintaining parity of regular passenger traffic between the US and Chinese carriers, announced by the ministry earlier this week,” the statement said.
The department indicated that the order “is an exclusively procedural decision and cannot be regarded as an escalation” on the American side. It aims to maintain regular passenger traffic parity between the United States and Chinese airlines.
The ministry is ready to reconsider its decision if the Chinese aviation authorities increase the number of flights for US companies.
Earlier, Washington threatened to introduce a ban for Chinese airlines on commercial passenger traffic between the United States and China.
The decision was a response to Beijing’s refusal to allow US airlines, which have reduced the number of flights to China due to the coronavirus pandemic, to return to their previous operating mode from June 1.
