President of the United States Donald Trump is going to sign an order that will mandate the creation of a national police registry and tighten requirements for training and hiring police officers. This is reported by the representative of the presidential administration.
According to him, the order will certify and standardize the training of police officers, as well as require the recruitment of police personnel from local communities.
On May 25, Minneapolis police officers arrested an African-American man, George Floyd. During the arrest, the police officer knelt on the man's neck. Floyd screamed that he was choking, but the law enforcement officers ignored him. As a result, the man died in intensive care. This caused mass protests and riots in the United States.
On June 12, another African-American man, Rashard Brooks, was killed in police custody in Atlanta. Brooks, who was sleeping drunk in the Parking lot of a fast-food restaurant, was arrested by police, but resisted, snatched the Taser from the officer and tried to run away. A police officer opened fire, resulting in fatal injuries to Brooks.
