The US can “punish” dozens of tankers for deliveries to Venezuela

US actions should be a signal to all shipowners that the republic is a restricted area, Reuters writes.

US authorities are considering imposing sanctions on dozens of foreign oil tankers for fuel supplies to Venezuela. This was reported on June 5 by Reuters, citing sources.

It is noted that some alleged sanctions will be announced in the near future.

According to the agency's interlocutors, restrictions may apply to 25 supertankers, each of which is capable of transporting two million barrels of fuel, as well as 17 smaller vessels.

As Reuters sources emphasized, “the final result can be a clear signal for all shipowners: consider Venezuela as a restricted area.”

Recall that in late May, five Iranian fuel tankers reached the territory of Venezuela. At the same time, the republic said that the United States was pursued by tankers, which is a violation of international law.

Losses of Venezuela due to US sanctions reached $116 billion.
