Biden got enough votes to run for president of the United States

Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden received enough votes to be nominated as a presidential candidate by the Democratic Party. This was reported by the Associated Press.

According to the agency, Biden has 1993 votes in the primary elections. To become a presidential candidate in the first round of voting, he had to get the support of the 1991 delegate.

“I was honored to compete with one of the most talented groups of candidates the Democratic Party has ever nominated,” Biden said in a statement.

Biden, 77, is Trump's main rival in the upcoming U.S. presidential election in 2020. In early April, it became known that Biden became the Democratic Party's only candidate after his rival Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders left the race.

Congresses of the parties, where the candidates will be officially nominated, are scheduled for August. The US presidential election is due in November.
