US President Donald Trump will sign a decree that will authorize the US Treasury to impose sanctions against Turkey for violating human rights in Syria or for actions leading to the destabilization of the situation in the country. This is stated in the statement of the department.
Also, the Trump decree should empower the Minister of Finance to introduce secondary sanctions for significant transactions with individuals and government bodies of Turkey.
“The decree delegates authority to the Minister of Finance, in agreement with the President and the Secretary of State, to impose sanctions on individuals and government bodies in Turkey who are involved in human rights violations or actions that will lead to a deterioration in the peaceful situation, security and stability in northeastern Syria.
By order of President Trump, we will impose sanctions on specific individuals or departments in Turkey if necessary, “said US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin.
He added that he had already approved this decree, but had not signed it yet. The draft order was designed to convince Turkey to abandon any further military operations in northeast Syria.
